Description Sideroxylon puberulum is an endemic tree which stands cyclonic conditions very well. It grows mostly in medium to high altitude humid forest such as eastern part of Machabée. It is also found at Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao). It can attain 15 metres in height. The leaves of Sideroxylon puberulumare are thick and coriaceous.
Economic Use
The wood, which is reddish brown in colour, is heavy, hard and very durable. It is good for making planks, poles and keels of boats.
