Of these, eight are endemic to the Mascarenes.&nbsp; The exotic species are from various parts of the tropics where they are pre-eminent for their stature and luxuriance.&nbsp; They can be divided broadly into two main groups:<\/p>\n<p>(a) feather or pinnate-leaved and&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(b) fan or flabelliform-leaved<\/p>\n<p>The greatest number comes from the first group.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-187b94b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"187b94b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>The Talipot<em> (Corypha umbraculifera)<\/em><\/h4><p>The\u00a0Talipot palm, is a species of\u00a0palm\u00a0native to eastern and southern\u00a0India\u00a0and\u00a0Sri Lanka. Apart from Mauritius where it was introduced, it is also grown in\u00a0Cambodia,\u00a0Myanmar,\u00a0Thailand, and the\u00a0Andaman Islands.<\/p><p>It was first introduced by the Singhalese Prince Ehelepola, who was arrested by the British in colonial Ceylon and exiled to Mauritius in 1825.<\/p><p>It is one of the five accepted species in the genus. It is a flowering plant with the largest inflorescence in the plant kingdom.\u00a0 The first plant that was introduced flowered in the 1920s.
