Avenue Jean Baptiste Fusée Aublet (1723-1778)

Jean Baptiste Fusée Aublet was summoned by la Compagnie des Indes in 1752 as the first Apoticaire “ Chemist”  and Chief Botanist of Isle de France.

On his arrival to the island, he resided for two years in Mon Plaisir where he established a medicinal and a vegetable garden to supply for the hospital and commuting vessels going by Isle de France.

In 1753, Jean Baptiste Fusée Aublet left Mon Plaisir and moved all the collection of plants, he gathered from diverse regions of the world to the Governor’s Residence in Le Reduit.

The name ‘Pamplemousses Garden’ was also probably given at this time by Fusée Aublet
